Shevolve Impactorium Reaches 250 Girls in Port Harcourt Through Leadership and Personal Growth Outreach

Date:

Shevolve Impactorium, the impact arm of the Shevolve movement, has reached approximately 250 students of Holy Rosary Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, through an outreach programme focused on identity, leadership, self-awareness and personal development.

Held to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, the two-hour engagement was themed “I Am More Than ‘Here’” and provided students with an opportunity to reflect on their aspirations, recognise their potential and explore ways to overcome limitations associated with their present circumstances.

The programme was led by Dr Ezinne Okwulehie, Founder of the Shevolve movement, who encouraged the girls to look beyond their current realities and recognise the possibilities available to them. She emphasised that a girl’s background, present challenges or limited access to opportunities should not determine the direction of her future.

Okwulehie highlighted the importance of self-awareness, continuous learning, personal development and intentional decision-making in shaping individual growth and leadership.

The outreach featured panel discussions, leadership conversations, counselling and healing-focused interactions. These sessions created opportunities for students to discuss issues affecting their personal development, share their perspectives and consider how they could take greater responsibility for their growth and future aspirations.

As part of the engagement, 90 copies of She Affirms, a book authored by Okwulehie, were distributed to students. The book explores intentional self-talk and how the words people use to describe themselves can influence their confidence, outlook and aspirations.

According to the organisers, feedback from the students reinforced the importance of creating supportive environments where girls can express themselves, ask questions and engage meaningfully with issues affecting their development.

Beyond the outreach, Shevolve Impactorium is seeking to establish a sustained partnership with Holy Rosary Secondary School. Proposed plans include an adoption arrangement and the establishment of a Shevolve Leadership Girls Club within the school.

The proposed club is expected to provide ongoing opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, identity-building and personal growth, helping students strengthen their self-awareness and prepare for future responsibilities.

The outreach forms part of Shevolve Impactorium’s broader commitment to translating the Shevolve movement’s focus on identity, growth, leadership and legacy into community-based programmes that support young people.

Through continued school engagement and mentorship initiatives, the organisation aims to create more opportunities for girls to recognise their potential, develop their leadership abilities and approach their futures with greater confidence.
